Walsall people asked to suggest sites for Walsall Borough Local Plan
Published on
The council’s cabinet on 13 December will be asked to agree to a call for sites, asking residents to submit proposals for sites that may be suitable for development.
Work on the Walsall Borough Local Plan will continue in place of the Black Country Plan which ceased production in October 2022.
The plan will identify sites to help meet the borough’s needs for jobs, homes and open space. It will also protect land for nature and the historic environment.
The council’s cabinet on 13 December will be asked to agree to a call for sites. Residents, businesses, and landowners will be able to put forward their ideas for sites that might be suitable for development. They will also be able to suggest sites such as open space which they would like to be protected. The council would especially like to know about brownfield sites and other land that is under-used.
The council will consider any sites submitted when the plan is drawn up. It will consult about the plan at a later date.
“ A call for sites will give us an opportunity to hear the proposals of local people when writing the plan. We want people to put forward ideas, not just for land for houses or employment uses. We also want ideas for land for open space and other uses too.
This is an opportunity to identify small pieces of vacant land. We welcome all ideas big or small. This might include potential land for green spaces, nature conservation enhancement and other uses. I’d also urge anyone that submitted a proposal under the previous Black Country Plan to please re-submit it for this new plan
“
The call for sites will begin from January 2024.
The exercise will include contacting owners and developers engaged in the former Black Country Plan. We will also contact other landowners who may wish to put forward their land for development.
Local Plans are key statutory documents to shape development in the borough through sites allocated for different types of employment, housing and public space. This is a great and positive opportunity to create sustainable growth in the borough and to make best use of our land for employment, living and leisure.
