Walsall Network North Statement

Published on

The Prime Minister’s Network North announcement on 4 October 2023 included a commitment for an additional £8.3 billion to support local highway maintenance, the funding will be allocated to local authorities over a 12-year period from 2023 to 2034.

This is a much-welcomed long-term government investment to help improve the condition of our local roads and will supplement existing budgets for local highways maintenance.  Over the 12 year period, the additional funding will be spent on resurfacing carriageways, cycleways, and footways which will result in fewer potholes and road defects across Walsall’s highway network.

For 2024/25 Walsall is grateful to have received an additional £383,245 of funding for the maintenance of our local highways.

The additional programmes of maintenance work delivered through Network North funding will be developed using annual highway condition surveys, and a highway maintenance strategy that prioritises work based on road condition, whilst also considering other local factors such a road usage, number of highway defects and customer service requests.

For 2024/25 the Network North funding allowed Walsall to deliver additional carriageway resurfacing schemes at Castle Road / Castlehill Road, and Princes Avenue.
