“ On behalf of the residents of Walsall, I would like to wish Walsall FC the very best of luck as they face AFC Wimbledon in the League Two play-off final at Wembley. The Saddlers have shown real grit to come back from a dip in form earlier this season and make it to the play-off final in style with a double victory over Chesterfield.

“The whole borough is right behind you as you fight for promotion to League One. Your triumph in reaching the play-off final has lifted spirits right across Walsall - it’s brought a real sense of pride and unity to our communities. You’ve reminded us all of what can be achieved through hard work, belief, and working together. Let’s bring League One football home - Up the Saddlers! “

Walsall council will also be putting a good luck message on the roadside digital screens from Sunday morning onwards.

The Saddlers set the town abuzz after their play-off victory over Chesterfield FC at the Poundland Bescot Stadium to secure a shot at promotion to League One against AFC Wimbledon at Wembley Stadium on Monday. Kick-off will be at 3:01PM – the extra minute has been added as part of the British Heart Foundation-led Every Minute Matters campaign, which aims to get football fans to learn CPR in case of an emergency during a game.

Councillor Harrison was appointed as the new Mayor of Walsall for 2025-26 following the annual Mayor Making ceremony in the Council Chamber in Walsall on Monday 19 May 2025.
