The Mayor of Walsall has called on residents to take pride in the borough and celebrate everything great about the region on Black Country Day on Monday 14 July 2025.

Black Country Day celebrates and honours the region’s rich industrial legacy and global contributions, while promoting pride and unity across Dudley, Sandwell, Walsall, and Wolverhampton.
“ Black Country Day is an opportunity for us all to celebrate our region’s incredible role in shaping the modern world. From the pioneering Newcomen Engine of 1712 to Walsall’s proud legacy as the nation’s leather capital, our region helped power the Industrial Revolution and left a lasting mark on global history.
But Black Country Day is also a celebration of who we are today - a creative, diverse, and ambitious region. Across Walsall, our communities are thriving, the arts are flourishing, and major regeneration projects are shaping a bold future for our borough.
Let us all celebrate our region’s proud achievements as we continue to build on them to create a borough that is thriving and happy, healthy and well, prosperous and innovative, and where everyone can feel truly proud to live and work. “
Only last Saturday, on 5 July 2025, Walsall Arboretum hosted The Bostin’ Black Country Bash, a free community celebration that brought together residents of all ages for a day of live music, storytelling, dance, food and creative activities. It captured the warmth, humour, and cultural richness that define the Black Country and highlighted Walsall’s commitment to celebrating diversity, local identity, and shared heritage.
This festival marked the 20th anniversary of the UNESCO Global Geoparks network, with the Black Country proudly recognised as one of its prestigious members. Thursday 10 July also marked five years since the Black Country was given its UNESCO Geopark designation, recognising the international importance of the region’s industrial and geological history.
Walsall is undergoing a £1.5 billion regeneration programme encompassing a range of ambitious, Council-led and partner-driven projects, from new homes and jobs to transport, public spaces and employment hubs. These schemes are designed to transform it into a destination where people want to live, work and spend time.
