The Commonwealth of Nations’ Flag is proudly flying outside the Council House in Walsall following an official raising on 11 March 2024 at 11am.
The Deputy Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Anthony Harris, was joined by Deputy Lieutenant Sir David Thompson and three children from Meadow View JMI School to raise the flag outside the Councill House.
Betsy and Isabella read the Commonwealth Affirmation out before Louie Arnold had the honour of officially raising the flag.
Held on the second Monday of every March, Commonwealth Day is designed to celebrate the shared values that unite 2.5 billion people across 56 countries.
Hundreds of Commonwealth Flags are being raised at the same time and flown in prominent locations throughout the UK and the 56 Commonwealth nations.
Deputy Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Anthony Harris, said: “I am honoured to raise this flag in unity with others across the Commonwealth and continue the tradition of commemorating Commonwealth Day.
“The theme for this year, which marks the 75th Anniversary of the modern Commonwealth, is 'One Resilient Common Future' which highlights how all member countries must harness their strengths by building resilience, unlocking potential, leveraging the 'Commonwealth Advantage' and fostering a connected, digital Commonwealth."
Following the raising, attendees were invited to the Mayor's Parlour where artwork created by students from Meadow View JMI School was on display.
