Walsall Council wishes best of luck to A-level and Post-16 students for results
Published on
The council’s lead for Education and Skills wishes A-Level and Post-16 students all the very best for their results which are due on Thursday 17 August, and for Year 11 students as they prepare to receive their GCSE results on Thursday 24 August.
Students and staff have demonstrated remarkable resilience over the last three years and following the disruption of the Covid-19 pandemic, where grades were assigned based on teacher assessment, students have this year returned to sitting exams in the usual way.
“ I would like wish the very best to those students awaiting their A-Levels and post-16 qualifications this week. No matter what the result you should all be very proud of your achievements especially due to the challenges you have faced over the last few years. I would also like to wish pupils who will be collecting their GCSE results next week the very best of luck.
Many students will now be embarking on exciting new chapters in their lives and I wish them well for whatever they decide to do next. I would also like to express my thanks to the teachers and all of the wonderful staff in our schools who have continued to teach and support our young people through challenging circumstances.
I recognise that there will be anxiety and uncertainty for some young people in Walsall who do not receive the results they need to take the next step in their journey, whether they are planning on continuing onto post-16 qualifications in school or college, attending university, or starting a career. We will continue to work with our schools and college to support our young people who are affected and offer support and guidance. “
If a student does not received the results they were expecting or need then they should, in the first instance, speak to their school or college about the options open to them, including appealing their grades. Walsall Council is supporting schools and academies with this offer.
There are lots of options available for young people – whether their exam results are as they expected, better or not quite as good as they hoped they would be. These include going on to sixth form or college, starting an apprenticeship or entering the world of work.
If you are a young person who needs some advice or has questions about education, training or employment you can contact the Walsall Council Employment and Skills Team on 01922 654352 or email: walsallworks@walsall.gov.uk. The team can provide one to one support including access to training for young people in Walsall aged 16 and over who are not in employment, education or training to help them overcome the barriers that may be stopping them from finding and securing training, education or a job.
