On Tuesday 10 March 2026, Walsall Council welcomed local organisations to the Mayor’s Parlour and invited them to sign the Armed Forces Covenant.

Continuing its commitment to supporting, and advocating for, serving military personnel, reservists, veterans, and their families, the council hosted nine local organisations at the Council House in an official UK Armed Forces Covenant signatory ceremony.

“ The Armed Forces Covenant is not only there to stop discrimination and tackle injustice, but it is also a pledge of support.

“We want to encourage as many organisations as possible to pledge their support for our armed forces. By signing, they are ensuring that their policies prevent discrimination against those who serve our country, whether that be active service personnel, reservists, veterans, or their families.

“People across the Walsall borough, are incredibly proud of our armed forces, and that is shown by the number of organisations which pledged their support. We had companies, schools, and charities all sign the Covenant, pledging to do more and to treat our armed forces community with the respect they deserve.

“I would like to thank each and every one of them for signing up and I would like to encourage other organisations to step up and show their support as well. “

Councillor Adam Hicken, Armed Forces Champion
Walsall Council

The council first signed the Armed Forces Covenant in 2013 and re-signed with renewed pledges in 2023. The following year, due to its continued commitment to the armed forces community, the council achieved a Silver Award in the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS).

This year, the council continues to further advocate for those who are currently serving or have previously served in the military. On Tuesday 10 March 2026, it hosted nine organisations from across the borough in an Armed Forces Covenant ERS signatory ceremony at the Mayor’s Parlour in the Council House.

Walsall Council was joined by MoD representatives for the event which saw nine organisations sign the Armed Forces Covenant:
