Walsall Council: the Most Improved Council in the country

Walsall Council has been named the Most Improved Council in the country.
The Council won a Local Government Chronicle (LGC) award at a prestigious ceremony in London, held on 12 June 2024.
The annual LGC Awards bring together the very best of local government, recognising excellence and innovation.
The ‘Most Improved Council’ award category recognises local authorities that have successfully led major organisational change or reform to deliver genuine improvement.
Judges of the awards commended Walsall for its substantial improvements over the past five years, which has been driven by the Council’s Proud Programme. The programme has played an instrumental role in transforming the Council's operations and improved service delivery across all areas of the organisation.
One of the key successes of the Proud Programme has been the expansion of digital services, which has improved access and outcomes for residents while achieving substantial cost savings. These efforts have not only bettered the customer experience for residents, but also ensured a more sustainable financial future for the Council.
