Walsall Council marks World Immunisation Week 2024

Walsall Council is marking World Immunisation Week (24-30 April 2024), a global week dedicated to highlight the collective action needed and to promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against disease.

Humanly possible: Saving lives through immunisation is the theme for World Immunisation Week 2024

With the theme Humanly Possible: Saving lives through immunisation, Walsall residents are being encouraged to ensure them and their families are protected and up to date with life-saving vaccines.

The council is committed to ensuring that all residents have access to vaccines. Throughout World Immunisation Week, the council will be raising awareness of the importance of vaccination and encouraging everyone to stay up to date on their recommended vaccinations, including MMR, whooping cough in pregnancy and the COVID-19 spring vaccine.

“ Vaccines are highly effective in preventing illnesses such as COVID-19, measles and whooping cough. Unfortunately, we have recently seen an increase in cases of measles and whooping cough across the country. COVID-19 has also not gone away.

Serious illness can be prevented. This World Immunisation Week, I would strongly encourage anyone and their families to check they are up to date with their vaccines and to come forward as soon as possible. It is never too late to catch up on missed doses. Getting vaccinated protects you, your loved ones and the wider community.

To help you come forward, we have a series of pop-up vaccination clinics across the borough offering different vaccines. Full details are available on the NHS Black Country Integrated Care Board website.

Check your child's red book, look on the NHS app or contact your GP to check if you are up to date. You can book to be vaccinated with your GP practice. “

Nadia Inglis, Interim Director of Public Health
Walsall Council

Pop-up clinics are running across the borough offering the COVID-19 spring vaccine for those aged 75 and over or those who have a weakened immune system. Eligible residents are encouraged to come forward to one of the clinics. Alternatively, appointments can be booked through the National Booking System online or by calling 119.

Clinics are also taking place across the borough offering the MMR vaccine for those who are due or have missed a dose:

  • Saturday 27 April, 1:30pm to 4:30pm at Pinfold Health Centre, Bloxwich (WS3 3JP).

  • Saturday 27 April, 10am to 4pm at Broadway Medical Centre (WS1 3HD).

The above clinics are open to those born after 1970 who haven't received both doses and are registered with a participating Walsall-based GP practice. Appointments can be booked by calling 01922 501999.

A clinic will also take place on Saturday 1 June, 10am to 2pm at North Family Hub, 275 Blakenall Lane, Blakenall, Walsall WS3 1HJ, open to all eligible children who are due or have missed a dose of the MMR vaccine. The DTP vaccine which provides protection against diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (whooping cough) and the MenACWY vaccine which helps protect against meningitis and septicaemia (blood poisoning) are also available at these clinics.

Residents can also contact their GP to book their vaccinations at any time.
