Walsall Council to launch visionary plan for Walsall Town Centre
Published on
The Walsall Town Centre Framework, a visionary yet deliverable plan for Walsall town centre, is due to be approved by Cabinet on Wednesday 10 December.
The new document will provide the council and its partners with a framework for the development of Walsall Town Centre over the next 5, 10 and 15-years, building on projects already in delivery that aim to make Walsall town centre a more attractive, vibrant and prosperous place.
“ Like many town centres, Walsall has faced tough times with changes in shopping habits and the cost-of-living crisis. But we’re determined to turn things around. This new plan builds on the progress we’ve already made since 2019, when we secured £31 million to kick-start major improvements that are now taking shape.
Walsall is open for business. We’ve shown we can attract investment and work with partners to make things happen. This framework is about creating new opportunities for homes, jobs, leisure and culture, and making our town centre a place we can all be proud of. “
The Town Centre Framework sets a clear vision for the future of Walsall Town Centre, guiding regeneration and investment. It aims to aid the creation of a town centre that is fit for current and future needs, bringing in more opportunities for learning, creativity, events, housing and leisure.
The document will be outward-facing and will be used by the council to guide collaboration with the private sector to attract future investment and development and guide how the town centre evolves.
The council appointed CBRE, supported by ADP and Stantec, as strategic advisors to lead the development of the framework. Engagement has been carried out with key stakeholder groups and partners across a range of sectors, and the council undertook a youth engagement session to gather the views of young people to help shape the plans.
