Walsall Council implements traffic and parking changes at Old Market Square

Published on

Walsall Council has introduced new traffic and parking arrangements close to the market square in Walsall town centre.  The changes have been implemented as part of a scheme to enhance the public area and provide convenient parking provision in the heart of the town centre.

Goodall St
Goodall Street

Effective immediately, the parking on High Street will be extended and a section of Goodall Street will become one-way to address concerns about traffic congestion.

“ These traffic and parking changes are part of our ongoing efforts to improve the overall experience for residents and visitors in Walsall town centre. This is an experimental measure, and we encourage the community to provide their valuable feedback on the scheme. “

Councillor Adrian Andrew
Portfolio Holder for Economy, Environment, and Communities

The parking restrictions for the marked bays on Goodall Street are as follows: On Monday to Saturday from 8 am to 6.30 pm, a maximum stay of 2 hours is allowed, and parking must be paid for using the available machine.

Similarly, parking along High Street will adhere to the following restrictions: On Monday to Saturday from 8 am to 6.30 pm, a maximum stay of 2 hours is permitted with free parking, and no return is allowed within 2 hours.

In order to accommodate blue badge holders dedicated bays are available along High Street. The parking duration for these bays is set at 3 hours, with a required interval of 1 hour before returning.

To ensure a smooth transition to these new arrangements, Walsall Council invites residents and stakeholders to provide their feedback. They may submit written representations to no later than April 30, 2024.
