Walsall Council celebrates two national award wins
Published on
Walsall Council has won two national awards thanks to improvements made to services and organisational development.
The Council’s Bereavement Services team was delighted to come out on top at the Association for Public Service Excellence (APSE) Innovation Awards.
The team's submission focused on changes made in service delivery, resulting in significant improvements at cemeteries in the borough.
Meanwhile, at the Public Services People Managers Association (PPMA) awards, the council came out on top in the Best Organisational Development Programme.
The submission for this category focused on an organisational development programme delivered at Walsall Council’s environmental depot. This consisted of training sessions and coaching for people managers to cultivate an inclusive, psychologically safe environment where staff feel valued, empowered, and continuously developed.
Unlike traditional training, the programme incorporated short, actionable sessions with coaching sessions for managers to clarify learning and implement it effectively.
“ I’m delighted to hear of yet more success stories coming out of Walsall Council and would like to congratulate everyone involved.
Winning these awards highlights the hard work that is continuously taking place to improve everything we do as a council.
This follows confirmation we have been shortlisted in two categories in both the MJ Achievement Awards and Local Government Chronicle Awards, results of which will be announced in June. “
Walsall Council features as a finalist in both the Senior Leadership Team and Care and Health Integration categories at the Municipal Journal (MJ) Achievement Awards, and the Most Improved Council and Health and Social Care categories at the Local Government Chronicle Awards.
