Walsall Children’s Services shortlisted for prestigious 2026 LGC Award

Published on

Walsall Council’s Children’s Services team has been announced as a finalist for a prestigious award at this year’s Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards.

‘LGC Awards 2026 30th Anniversary Finalist’ and says “We’re Shortlisted!”. Underneath the text is a logo for Walsall Right 4 Children.

The council’s team is a finalist in the Children’s Services category following a submission that centred around the service’s eight-year transformational journey and underpinning vision: Walsall Right 4 Children.

“ We are thrilled to have been shortlisted for such a prestigious award that brings together the very best of local government.

“Across the country, children’s services are operating under huge pressures, and for Walsall to be listed as a finalist, against such a challenging backdrop demonstrates our determination and commitment to giving children and young people the very best start in life.

“I’d like to thank our incredible workforce who have made this happen, and for all they do to support our most vulnerable children and young people across the borough. “

Councillor Mark Statham, Portfolio Holder for Children’s, Families and Lifelong Learning
Walsall Council

The Walsall Right 4 Children ambition was first launched in 2018 and focuses on providing the right support, in the right place, at the right time. The vision puts children and young people at the centre of the council’s work and uses their lived experiences to shape service delivery.

“ We received more than 1,000 entries to the LGC Awards 2026, making it another record-breaking year.

“All too often, councils are the unsung heroes of their local areas, with brilliant staff working tirelessly to serve their communities. These awards are a chance to celebrate their innovation, dedication and compassion.

“It’s brilliant to see such a widespread and diverse range of councils represented on this year’s shortlist. Best of luck to all shortlisted. “

Martin George, Acting Editor
LGC

Finalists in the children’s services category will be judged upon their achievements as well as their level of ambition for children and young people. Other judgment criteria include the extent of which the organisation has adopted a strategic approach to children’s services; its relationships with schools, the health service and other partner agencies; and the impact that the service has locally on the lives of children and young people.

The winning organisation will be crowned at the 30th annual LGC Awards 2026, in a prestigious ceremony, taking place at Grosvenor House in London on Wednesday 10 June.
