Walsall Council has recently been awarded £5.6m in the latest allocation of the Household Support Fund to be delivered from 1 April 2023 to 31 March 2024.

The aim of the Household Support Fund (HSF), is to provide help with essential costs to anyone who is vulnerable, or unable to afford things such as energy, water or food.

“ I fully support the recommendations, especially the emergency support schemes that have been distributed by this Council to those residents who have needed it. This £5.6 million of government funding will be invaluable support to those communities where hardship is being experienced. “

Councillor Garry Perry
Deputy Leader for Resilient Communities

“ I am pleased that the recommendations for the delivery of the Household Support Fund has been approved. This will help provide support to vulnerable households at a time when the cost of living continues to rise significantly and in turn help to improve health and wellbeing. “

Councillor Gaz Ali, Portfolio Holder for Customer Engagement
Walsall Council

“ I welcome this report and fully support the proposal to allocate more than £2.5 million to families and supporting children across the Borough to be happy, healthy and learning well “

Councillor Stacie Elson, Portfolio Holder for Children
Walsall Council

Among the recommendations and following consultation with residents and partners, the previous Walsall Crisis Support Policy (WCSP) has been updated with government’s ambition to provide more crisis support to a wider cohort of recipients who are experiencing hardship due to the cost of living crisis.

The new process, Walsall Local Welfare Provision Scheme, aims to reduce duplication, helping to ensure that more residents experiencing financial pressure can access assistance, particularly where they might otherwise be excluded from applying for other benefits or financial support.

Further information about how the fund can be accessed will be shared in due course.
