Vehicle seized as part of action against fly-tipping and anti-social behaviour

Published on

Walsall Council has seized a vehicle following intelligence linking it to fly-tipping, anti-social behaviour and other criminal activity.

Seized van

The vehicle was seized in Beechdale on Tuesday 27 January, following numerous complaints. Reports indicated that the vehicle was being used to advertise waste collection services on social media and was suspected of being involved in fly-tipping incidents within the borough.

Working in partnership with West Midlands Police, Community Protection officers carried out the seizure as part of ongoing efforts to disrupt illegal waste activity and protect local neighbourhoods. Checks also confirmed that the vehicle had not been taxed since late 2025.

The vehicle will be held ahead of further investigations into individuals associated with it. Should it remain unclaimed, an application will be made to the Magistrates Court to have the vehicle crushed.

Councillor Adam Hicken

“ This seizure sends a clear message that fly-tipping and the illegal collection of waste will not be tolerated in Walsall. Vehicles linked to this kind of activity cause real harm to our neighbourhoods and undermine legitimate waste operators who follow the rules.

“I am delighted with this result, but we will not stop here. We will continue to work closely with our partners, including the police, to disrupt those responsible and take firm enforcement action wherever necessary. We have new cameras rolling out as we speak, which will help us issue more fines and find those disrespecting our borough.

“I would also encourage residents to make sure that anyone collecting waste for them is properly licensed, as using illegal collectors often leads to fly-tipping that damages our communities. “

Walsall boasts two Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) that are free to use: Fryers Road, Bloxwich, and soon to open Middlemore Lane, Aldridge.

The council also offers a bulky items collection service for residents who may struggle to transport larger items to a recycling centre. This service can be booked through the council's website.

Additionally, residents facing challenges in managing their household waste, such as those with growing families or ongoing medical conditions, can apply for a larger bin through the council’s website.

Residents are encouraged to play their part in the fight against fly-tipping by reporting incidents quickly and easily on the council's website: https://go.walsall.gov.uk/apply/myaccount-online-services/report-fly-tip, or by calling 01922 653355.
