Published on

Two exceptional Walsall residents have been recognised in The King’s New Year Honours List 2026 for their outstanding service to communities across the borough and the wider West Midlands.

Mrs Janet Anne Rose Daies and Mrs Kerry Lorraine Turner

The King’s New Year Honours recognise individuals across the United Kingdom for their contributions to public and community life. The honours system acknowledges achievements across a wide range of sectors, including voluntary service, public service, education, health, and community support.

This year, 26 individuals from across the West Midlands have received honours, including awards at MBE and BEM level.

“ I would like to offer my heartfelt congratulations to both recipients on being named in the New Year Honours List. This national level of recognition is something that our whole community can take pride in.

These awards acknowledge sustained commitment, and it is clear that both recipients have played an important part in supporting local people over many years. Their work reflects the values we see across Walsall every day - quiet determination, care for others, and a willingness to step forward when needed.

I am grateful for their contribution to our borough and wish both Janet and Kerry well as they mark this incredible achievement! “

The Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Louise Harrison

Mrs Janet Anne Rose Davies has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) for services to the community in Walsall. She is the Chair of the Walsall Community Network, which brings together 15 Community Associations operating across the borough. The network supports the delivery of a range of local services and activities, reaching an estimated 80,000 residents each month.

Mrs Kerry Lorraine Turner has been appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to Citizens Advice and to the community. She is the Chief Executive Officer of Citizens Advice Solihull, where she oversees the provision of advice and support services for residents, including those experiencing financial difficulty, vulnerability or complex personal circumstances.
