Stoptober event prompts quit smoking and wellbeing support

Approximately 100 attendees were welcomed at an event earlier this month to learn more about stop smoking support and local services to improve overall health and wellbeing.

Staff from Be Well Walsall were in Bloxwich earlier this month to promote their services including stop smoking support.

Be Well Walsall’s Stoptober event on Friday 11 October at Bloxwich Active Living Centre saw attendees meet with a variety of service providers such as Plasma of Hope, Green Square Accord, Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, Job Change, Walsall Leisure, Walsall Connected, Walsall FC Foundation, West Midlands Fire Service and whg. NHS Health Checks were available to eligible residents, as well as tailored health and wellbeing advice.

Be Well Walsall’s stop smoking service spoke to 25 residents about the 8-12 weeks of free, personalised tailored support available, with many registering to attend the clinics.

Staff also met with residents and businesses in Bloxwich town centre to promote the event and raise awareness about the services available on offer from Be Well Walsall, which includes quit smoking, support to be a healthier weight, improve wellbeing and NHS Health Checks.

Be Well Walsall also joined forces with Walsall Healthcare NHS Trust’s Tobacco Dependency and Health in Pregnancy teams earlier this month to meet hospital staff, patients and visitors. The services will be available to speak to on Wednesday 30 October between 10am and 2pm at Walsall Manor Hospital (opposite Costa Coffee).

“ We’re pleased to see so many people taking advantage of the support available to help them quit smoking and make changes to improve or maintain their health and wellbeing. Beyond this, we offered NHS Health Checks (to eligible residents) and tailored advice.

We are committed to supporting the national ambition for England to be smoke free by 2030 and aim to be the region's leading borough in reducing smoking rates.

If you missed the Stoptober event but are still considering quitting smoking, it is not too late to sign up. Talk to Be Well Walsall to find out about the support available. “
