Statement - drug-related overdoses

Published on

The below statement has been issued about drug-related overdoses and where to seek support and treatment.

We have been made aware that there are some dangerous batches of heroin currently being distributed in Walsall and surrounding areas. These batches are more likely to cause overdose than usual, even at much smaller doses.

Working with colleagues at 'Change Grow Live' who provide support, treatment and advice to people using drugs and alcohol in Walsall, we are working quickly to cascade information about the risks and concerns to service users as well as those who work with substance users in the borough.

“ We would like to see as many people as we can come forward to our treatment services for support with any alcohol and drug problems they may have, and to get appropriate advice on how they can reduce their own risk. “

Stephen Gunther, Director of Public Health
Walsall Council

We are encouraging people who use drugs to contact our alcohol and drug treatment service provider (The Beacon, which is run by Change Grow Live (CGL)) to make sure they are receiving appropriate support and treatment.

We will continue to monitor the situation very closely.
