The EnviroCrime Roadshow will take place at Willenhall Market from 10am to 2pm.

This visit is part of the council's EnviroCrime project, which involves officers patrolling local communities, investigating incidents of fly-tipped waste and litter, identifying the responsible parties, and addressing the root causes through education.

The aim of the visit is to educate the public and local groups on maintaining cleanliness, while offering the opportunity to address any concerns.

“ We are pleased to continue offering these educational visits in order to engage with the local community.

Our residents are the people who know their areas best and we encourage Willenhall locals to use this visit as an opportunity to directly address their concerns with our council officers.

Together, we can make a difference in addressing environmental concerns and keeping our communities clean and green. “

Councillor Kerry Murphy, Portfolio Holder for Street Pride at Walsall Council

Walsall Council’s Envirocrime trailer serves as a mobile information hub where residents can obtain details about the council's bulky waste collections, household waste recycling centres (HWRCs), and other related services.

Officers will also be available to discuss how locals can help improve street cleanliness and promote proper waste disposal practices.

To gather important information from residents regarding local concerns, fly-tipping hotspots, or environmental issues in the area, the council also encourages anyone with information to speak to the officers during the visit.

   Notes to editor:

  • The EnviroCrime initiative is a project by Walsall Council that addresses fly-tipping through a dual-pronged approach, combining education and enforcement. The initiative employs various strategies, including issuing warning letters, offering advice on council services, treating fly-tipped areas as crime scenes, and engaging with residents through roadshows to understand the root causes of fly-tipping. By combining these methods, the council aims to change the behaviour of perpetrators and create a cleaner, greener borough for all.

  • Fly-tipping is a serious criminal offence which carries a fine of up to £20,000 (unlimited if indicted to the Crown Court). Offenders can even be sent to prison.

  • There are two Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) in the borough of Walsall which are free to use: Fryers Road, Bloxwich and Merchants Way, Aldridge. A new state-of-the-art Household Waste Recycling Centre and Waste Transfer Station in Aldridge is also under construction, due to be completed later this year.

  • The council offers a bulky items collection service for residents who may struggle to take larger items to a Household Waste Recycling Centre. This can be booked through the Council website.

  • Residents who are struggling to manage their household waste, for example because of a growing family or an ongoing medical condition, can apply for a larger bin through the Council’s website.

  • Walsall Council offers a £500 reward for information on fly-tipping incidents which results in prosecution. Evidence can be submitted here https://go.walsall.gov.uk/apply/myaccount-online-services/report-fly-tip and may consist of photos, statements, or paperwork. Should submitted documents result in a successful prosecution, the reward of £500 will be issued.
