Research service providing access to Walsall’s archives relaunched

A research service provided by Walsall Archives has been relaunched to allow people to explore the rich history of the borough.

The paid-for service gives anyone access to the research skills of the Walsall Archives team, whether they live in the borough or elsewhere.   

The service aims to return any enquiries within 28 working days to allow for time to retrieve, access and search relevant records as well as write up any findings.    

Over the years many interesting requests have been processed by the service, one of which saw the team find information and records that helped paint a picture of the town during the Civil War, restoration and the ‘Glorious Revolution’.   

The service has also handled requests from relatives of past Mayors of the borough to view correspondence files held from their time in post.  

“ I’m delighted that we are relaunching our research service.

This will give individuals who are unable to visit us in person to use our services the option to request that our team put their research skills to use and delve into our collections to find answers that they may otherwise be unable to access. “

The cost for the service is £20 per half hour of research up to a maximum of two hours.     

The time paid for includes accessing, retrieving and searching records; writing a report about where and what has been accessed to carry out the research and a limited number of photocopies.    

Basic enquiries regarding holdings or information about the service remain free.
