Parents of babies born in Walsall can now register births at one of the council’s Family Hubs.

The new service is available at the West Locality Family Hub, and until now, births in the borough could only be registered at the Register Office in the town centre.

The service opened on 10 April 2024, and three-week old baby Rares was the first baby to be registered at the Hub by his mum and dad.

Rares’ mum, Diana, had never visited one of the council’s Family Hubs before, but selected to register Rares at one due to its convenient location. Diana said, “We chose to visit the Family Hub to register Rares and we’re so glad we did, it was a really lovely experience.”

Holly Holdsworth, Principal Registrar at Walsall Council, said, “As a team, our Registrars are happy to be able to bring the registration of births in Walsall to the West Locality Family Hub, as it’s an environment where other useful services are available to new parents.

“We hope to extend this service to other Family Hubs in the borough over the coming year.”

Walsall’s Family Hubs were launched in July 2023, and are a ‘one-stop-shop’ for families with children aged 0-19, or up to 25 years old for those with additional needs. The Hubs centralise a range of essential services all under one roof so parents can access the support they or their family need.

“ We’re thrilled babies are now being registered at one of our Family Hubs.

This is exactly what the Hubs have been set up to do, to support families in their local community.

Appointments are available all day, every Wednesday, and parents can book an appointment on the council’s website. “
