Fly tipping and pollution
Prize-winners' artwork now on display

Artwork created by a trio of talented youngsters is now being displayed on Walsall Council bin lorries and household waste recycling centres.
School children from the Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School in Clayhanger, Walsall, took part in a competition last autumn to design eye-catching posters promoting the importance of recycling. This followed an educational visit to the school by council fly-tipping and recycling education officers.
“ We are immensely proud of the creativity and dedication displayed by the students at Holy Trinity. Their wonderful designs not only underscore the critical importance of recycling but also serve as a powerful motivator for the entire community to embrace these sustainable practices.
This initiative exemplifies the positive impact of collaborative efforts in creating a cleaner, greener Walsall for all. “
The winning design, created by pupil Elsie, has been wrapped on the side of one of the council's bin lorries. Isabella and Madeleine, the second-place winners, saw their designs transformed into bin wraps for use within their school, while the runners-up enjoyed the honour of having their artwork showcased at Walsall Council's two household waste recycling centres in Fryers Road, Bloxwich, and Merchants Way, Aldridge.
The wrapped materials were presented to the pupils at an awards ceremony on Tuesday 19 November 2024
Building on this success, council officers will next be visiting Ryders Hayes Primary School in Pelsall later this term to host another competition and educational presentation.

Notes to editors
• Fly-tipping is a serious criminal offence which carries a fine of up to £20,000 (unlimited if indicted to the Crown Court). Offenders can even be sent to prison.
• The ‘EnviroCrime’ initiative is a project by Walsall Council that addresses fly-tipping by treating affected areas as crime scenes. This approach highlights the council's zero-tolerance stance on fly-tipping, making it clear to offenders that investigations are actively conducted. By designating these sites as active crime scenes, the council aims to deter future incidents of fly-tipping.
• There are two household waste recycling centres in the borough of Walsall which are free to use: Fryers Road, Bloxwich and Merchants Way, Aldridge.
• The council offers a bulky items collection service for residents who may struggle to take larger items to a household waste recycling centre. This can be booked through the council website.
• Residents who are struggling to manage their household waste, for example because of a growing family or an ongoing medical condition, can apply for a larger bin through the council’s website.
