Parents in Walsall can now book medical appointments at council’s Family Hubs
Published on
Three of the Walsall Council’s Family Hubs have opened new clinical spaces.
The rooms, opened in partnership with the NHS, will allow parents to book medical appointments for their child at Hubs, opposed to alternate locations such as hospitals.
Appointments which families can book include antenatal assessments and development checks.
The council launched four Family Hubs in the borough during 2023, offering a range of essential services for families all under one roof.
The new spaces mean that should they wish to, families can attend appointments and health checks up to five times before their child is one years old.
“ We’re absolutely delighted to launch these rooms at three of our Hubs.
The ethos of Family Hubs in Walsall is that they are a one-stop shop of help and support, so to offer clinical appointments in locations which are in convenient to our residents is something we hope will be hugely popular.
We want appointments, health checks and the services we offer to be accessible and easy for families to get to, so opening these spaces in the heart of our communities is really how we can best support our families.
The Hubs offer so much support. Last year, we launched a birth registration service and since April 2024, over 300 babies have been registered in a Family Hub, which goes to show our families do want these services made local to them. “
Appointments at the clinical rooms will be led by healthcare professionals and will run the same as appointments at other medical venues.
Parents visiting the Hubs have already shared some feedback about the rooms. One parent said, “This is brilliant news as I can now walk to my nearest Hub for almost anything I need. I always feel safe and welcome here.”

What are Family Hubs?
Family Hubs offer a welcoming space where families can access advice and support from a range of services. The Hubs have been set up to support families with children aged 0-19, or 0-24 for those children with special educational needs and disabilities.
With teams located in four locality hubs across the borough, a variety of services can be found all under one roof, to provide the families they work with easier access to these services, to provide the right help at the right time.
Practitioners include family support practitioners, health visitors, school nurses, early help police officers, domestic abuse support practitioners, mental health support and substance misuse support.
The four hubs are located at:
• North Family Hub - 275 Blakenall Lane, Blakenall, Walsall WS3 1HJ
• West Family Hub - Ilmington House, Crescent Road, Wednesbury, WS10 8AE
• South & Central Family Hub - Birchills Street, Walsall, WS2 8NG
• East Family Hub - Silver Court, Walsall, WS8 6HA
There are also an additional 10 ‘community spokes’ based in voluntary and community buildings across the borough.
