Susanna Vass, Specsavers and Ian Jackson, Advanced Support Officer at Aldridge Specsavers

Aldridge Specsavers contacted Walsall Council’s rough sleepers' team to see how they could do more to help support those sleeping rough in the borough.

The team recommended that the branch donate to the Change into Action scheme, a partnership between Walsall Council, the Mayor of the West Midlands and the West Midlands Combined Authority.

Change into Action is an alternative giving scheme supporting specialist charities and street teams working to change the circumstances of rough sleepers.

The team at Specsavers raised £175 by asking customers to fill out their feedback form. For each form filled out, a donation of £1 was pledged to Change into Action and this was doubled if a member of staff was mentioned in the feedback.

“ I want to say a huge thank you to all our fabulous customers who responded to our survey.

Thanks to them, we were able to donate £175 to Change into Action, a fantastic local scheme aimed at addressing rough sleeping that works closely with individuals and invests time and support into changing lives. “

The branch, based on High Street, Aldridge, is also offering out-of-hours appointments for rough sleepers or former rough sleepers for free eye tests, lenses and frames.

Aldridge Specsavers are also working with Kings Barbers to provide free hair and beard grooming for those in need and living on the streets.
