A new outdoor area has been unveiled at E-ACT Willenhall Academy, Walsall.

The space was opened on 11 October 2024 by Sureena Brackenridge MP and the Council’s lead for education and skills, Councillor Pardeep Kaur.

The area is equipped with basketball courts and football grids, so students can enjoy outdoor activities during the school day.

The unveiling follows a summer of improvements after E-ACT Academy Trust invested £500,000 into the school. This included installing interactive whiteboards and blinds into every classroom, plus new pavements and groundworks which make it easier for pupils to travel in and around school.

The academy has also recently appointed 26 additional specialist teachers following a recruitment drive.

Mrs Brackenridge and Councillor Kaur were joined by local councillors for a visit which included a school tour, plus time to talk with students and staff about the learning environment.

“ It was an absolute pleasure to visit E-ACT Willenhall Academy, where we were warmly welcomed by a school community that is proud of the strides they’ve made and deeply committed to ongoing improvement under the leadership of Mr Marston.

Having worked in local schools for many years, it's always inspiring to see a school so focused on enhancing opportunities for its students and committed to creating an environment where they’re excited to come to school each day.

I take pride in my background as a Deputy Headteacher, and I look forward to working collaboratively with school leaders within Walsall within my new role on the Education Select Committee.

It was such an honour to be able to open the new outdoor area, seeing all the opportunities this will bring for young people.

Sureena Brackenridge
MP for Wolverhampton North East

“ What a great morning we had at Willenhall academy, all the students and staff made us feel so welcome, and it was great to speak with young people about their views on school, what they like, what they don’t like, and what their ambitions are for the future.

There was a real sense of positivity in the air, and it’s clear to see that the school is committed to creating the best possible learning environment for young people, so they can look forward to lessons and enjoy each school day.

The new outdoor area looks great, and even the sunshine came out for its opening! “

Councillor Pardeep Kaur, Portfolio Holder for Education and Skills
Walsall Council

“ The partnership between the local authority and our academy trust have been fundamental in what has been a huge shift in culture at the school.

E-ACT have invested in the future of the school and embraced a really confident outlook for what is now a school that the community can be really proud of. We still have lots to do, but we are doing it together. “
