Published on

Walsall Council’s new Council Plan for 2025-29 is to be considered for formal approval by Full Council at a meeting on Monday 13 January 2025.

Council House

Pursuing Excellence: Our Council Plan 2025-29 sets out the council’s vision and priorities for the next four years, where its resources will be prioritised, and how it will deliver against the long-term We Are Walsall 2040 vision for the borough.

“ Our vision is to be a continuously improving council, delivering excellence, reducing inequalities and improving life chances for all.

“These are challenging times. We have a track record of strong financial management but there is always a need to target our resources carefully. Alongside rising demand on many of our services, particularly within adult social care and children’s services, there is limited additional funding provided to councils by government.

“Since the publication of our last Council Plan, Walsall has been on an improvement journey. We have made great progress, and we want to continue transforming the borough for the better. “

Councillor Garry Perry, Leader of Walsall Council

The Council Plan 2025-29 adopts the We Are Walsall 2040 ambitions as the overarching framework for its council priorities as well as a fifth internally focused ambition. They include:

  • Thriving and happy.
  • Healthy and well.
  • Prosperous and innovative.
  • Proud of our borough.
  • Continuously improving.

It is underpinned by five underlying principles which apply to everything the council does as an organisation to enable it to deliver all its priorities more effectively:

  • Focusing on prevention.
  • Ensuring equity.
  • Working in partnership.
  • Being insight-led.
  • Acting sustainably.

Every council has a statutory requirement to produce a Council Plan, which sets out its vision, areas of focus, and the prioritisation of resources for the next four years.

The new Council Plan has been in development throughout 2024 with extensive engagement and a period of public consultation. Feedback has been incorporated to help shape the new plan.

This council meeting takes place on Monday 13 January 2025 and starts at 6pm. It is a public meeting.
