The Old Hall People’s Partnership Community Shop is working with local suppliers and national charities to offer a range of essential items at low cost. Fresh fruit and vegetables are being source from Walsall-based business F R Heydon, while HisChurch, a national charity dedicated to redistributing surplus food and goods is supplying ambient products.

As well as providing affordable groceries, the shop is offering additional benefits through Old Hall People’s Partnership, including discounts at the Pass It On furniture shop and free tea and coffee at the centre.

“ The Old Hall People’s Partnership Community Shop is a fantastic initiative that will help make everyday essentials more affordable for local people. By working with organisations like Old Hall People’s Partnership, HisChurch, and local suppliers, we’re ensuring our residents have access to good-quality, low-cost food, while also creating opportunities for engagement within the community. “

The shop also features a separate room that will be used by a local breastfeeding nurse who will run clinics for new mothers. A designated workspace has also been established, where councillors and other key stakeholders can hold drop-in sessions with residents.

Residents can also pick up free seeds through Food for Life’s seed library, enabling them to plant and grow food and plants in their own home.

The Old Hall People’s Partnership Community Shop is now open, and residents are encouraged to find out more about what’s on offer. To use community shops, residents must become a member. Residents do not need to be in receipt of welfare benefits to be eligible. Many local families are struggling with rises in the cost of living and community shops aim to help money go further in Walsall.
