New accessible changing facilities unveiled at Darlaston Town Hall

Published on

A new accessible changing room and toilet has been officially opened at Darlaston Town Hall.

Darlaston Town Hall Changing Places

The facility is the third to be opened this year in the borough, and the ribbon was officially cut at the Darlaston Town Hall on Friday 28 June 2024.

Changing Places toilets are designed to be fully accessible and to provide a dignified and hygienic space for individuals with multiple and complex disabilities.  They include a height-adjustable changing bench and sink, hoisting system and peninsular toilet. They provide ample room to accommodate users, their wheelchair, and up to two carers.

“ These facilities are so important in helping us to create an inclusive borough which meets all our residents’ needs.

“The opening of the facility in Darlaston Town Hall follows on from the opening of two others in Bloxwich Library and the Saddlers Shopping Centre.

"More than 230,000 people in the UK need personal assistance to use the toilet or change, and these facilities help people get out of their homes and stay out for longer.

“We are committed to offering our residents a clean, welcoming and inclusive borough which meets their needs. “

Councillor Adrian Andrew, Deputy Leader and Portfolio Holder for Economic Growth and Regeneration

Friday 19 July 2024 marked the annual Changing Places Awareness Day, which aims to celebrate all that the campaign has achieved to date and raise awareness of the life-changing difference Changing Places toilets make to people's lives.

The three Changing Places facilities in the borough opened throughout 2024 have been funded by the Government in partnership with Muscular Dystrophy UK.
