As a mark of respect flags have been lowered to half-mast above Walsall Council buildings.

A Book of Condolence is open at the Walsall Town Hall to enable residents to pay their respects. It is to remain open between 9am and 6pm every weekday and between 10am and 4pm at weekends. This Sunday 11 September the book will be open from 1.30 to 4pm.

The Mayor, Councillor Martin, was the first to sign the book on behalf of the Borough, followed by Dr Helen Paterson the Chief Executive of Walsall Council. The next to pay his respects by signing the book of condolence was the Leader of the Council, Councillor Mike Bird, followed by the Leader of the Labour Group on Walsall Council, Councillor Aftab Nawaz.

After signing the Book of Condolence Councillor Bird said, “I am very saddened by the passing of our longest serving monarch. Queen Elizabeth II lived an exemplary life of public service. My thoughts are very much with Her Majesty’s family.”

An online Book of Condolence is available on the Walsall Council website. Support to sign the book online will be provided for anyone who does not have access to the internet, at libraries and community associations across the Borough, through Walsall Connected.

Those who wish to lay flowers will be encouraged to do so in an area that is to be set aside for floral tributes outside of the Civic Centre on Darwall Street in Walsall.
