Make sexual health a priority this 2026 by getting tested regularly

Published on

Walsall residents are encouraged to make sexual health a key part of their overall health and wellbeing this year by getting tested early and regularly, practising safe sex and prioritising a check-up before starting a new relationship. Taking care of sexual health helps protect individuals and their partners.

Regular sexual health testing is a simple, free and confidential way to reduce the spread of sexually transmitted infections (STIs), many of which can go unnoticed without symptoms.

Common STIs such as chlamydia and gonorrhoea can usually be detected from two weeks after exposure, such as after the festive season, making early testing an important step for peace of mind and protection.

The best way to prevent sexually transmitted infections is by using a condom. They are non-hormonal and provide protection against sexually transmitted infections, including unplanned pregnancy. Accessing sexual health services and testing is free and confidential.

Walsall residents who do not have symptoms can order a free, online testing kit from Walsall Integrated Sexual Health (WiSH). The order process asks a series of questions to ensure the right kit is sent. STI tests are delivered by post and can be done at home. People will receive a text message with the results, with details for further advice, support and treatment from the team. Anyone who does have symptoms is advised to access our WiSH service directly.

“ Sexual health is an important part of our overall wellbeing. Regular testing, early treatment and staying healthy can protect you and the wider community.

We want everyone in Walsall to feel confident accessing free, confidential services and our WiSH service is here to help in encouraging residents to get the support they need at the right time. “

Councillor Gary Flint, Portfolio Holder for Culture, Health and Wellbeing at Walsall Council
