Make 2026 the perfect time to quit smoking
Published on
As the new year begins, Walsall residents are being encouraged to make 2026 the year they quit smoking and take control of their health, with access to a range of local services in the community, digitally and through specialist services.
Between November 2024 and November 2025, 1,068 residents set a quit date, with a 60% quit rate at four weeks (which is above the national average of 53.6%). This highlights the growing demand for local stop smoking support across Walsall.
Quitting smoking is one of the most impactful steps someone can take for their health, for their loved ones and for the future.
Through free local services like Be Well Walsall and Quit with Bella (commissioned by Walsall Council), residents can access tailored support to kick the habit in January and begin the new year with a fresh purpose and solid motivation, even if they have tried quitting before.
“ Quitting smoking is one of the best things you can do for your health. With the right support, it is achievable. We’re proud to offer stop smoking support through Be Well Walsall and Quit with Bella as well as specialist services provided by the NHS. We invite every Walsall resident to start this journey now. Let’s make this year take us another step towards the national ambition for England to be smoke-free by 2030. “
Be Well Walsall provides free, tailored support to quit smoking through face-to-face, phone or digital sessions. For those currently in hospital, the Tobacco Dependency Service supports patients who smoke or have smoked within the previous 30 days. Trained staff work with inpatients to help them quit smoking and offer nicotine replacement therapy.
Patients and their companions visiting Walsall Manor Hospital’s Emergency Department can speak to trained staff to stop smoking, with an onward referral to a local service. To find out more about these hospital stop smoking interventions, email wht.tdt@nhs.net.
Specialist support is also offered to inpatients receiving mental health support through Black Country Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
