On Thursday 16 May 2024, the team behind the major regeneration of M6 Junction 10 were recognised at the West Midlands Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation (CIHT) awards.
As well as winning two awards, Best Collaboration and Best Large Project, the project was also highly commended for Innovation.
Walsall Council has been working in partnership with National Highways, with construction completed by John Sisk & Son, to deliver the improvements to Junction 10, which completed earlier this year.
“ This award is a fantastic acknowledgement of the work that’s gone in to making this project a success. I’m really proud of the collaborative approach that we’ve taken and the positive impact that the junction improvements have made “
“ We are delighted that, working in collaboration with our partners, we have been able to deliver this much-needed upgrade which has increased capacity, improved safety for all road users including cyclists and pedestrians and brought more reliable journey times for drivers. “
“ We are extremely proud to be recognised for upgrading such a critical piece of infrastructure. The scheme was very technically and logistically challenging and the successful delivery is fully down to the collaboration and integration amongst the teams. “
The CIHT West Midlands West Midlands Awards night is an annual event celebrating the very best the region has to offer across key areas of highways and transportation and was held at the Burlington Hotel in Birmingham. The Awards recognise the outstanding contribution that good projects and people make to our daily lives.
The event was attended by representatives from the M6 Junction 10 integrated project team (Walsall Council, National Highways and the works contractor John Sisk and Son) and the project was recognised for three separate awards.
Winning both ‘Best Collaboration’ and ‘Best Large Project’ the Junction 10 scheme was praised for its collaborative partnership arrangement and the combined efforts to achieve effective project management and was recognised as an outstanding example of a large highways project.
