Local council shortlisted in the 2024 LGC Awards
Published on
Walsall Council has been shortlisted in the ‘Most Improved Council’ category at this year’s Local Government Chronicle (LGC) Awards.
“ I’m extremely proud that Walsall Council has been shortlisted in these prestigious awards. Over the last five years, the council has transformed itself as an organisation, overhauling its approach to leadership and service delivery, and ushering in innovative ways to engage communities and partners. The programme of work has exceeded our ambitious goals and it’s great to gain wider recognition from the local government community.
The work has been framed around three ‘Proud Promises’ - to improve outcomes and customer experience, employee satisfaction and engagement, and service efficiency and performance. It’s opened up access to digital services while delivering better outcomes for residents and delivered substantial savings, putting the council on a more sustainable financial footing. The result is a confident and agile organisation that’s at the helm of £1.5 billion regeneration plans and is leading efforts to turn a co-produced vision for the borough’s future into reality. “
The annual LGC Awards recognise outstanding achievements in local government. The ‘Most Improved Council’ award category recognises local authorities that have successfully led major organisational change or reform to deliver genuine improvement.
Walsall Council is also recognised in another category in this year’s award. Walsall Together, in which Walsall Council is a partner organisation, has been shortlisted in the health and social care category. This category recognises how councils have worked to improve or maintain health and social care services through facilitating integration and improving collaboration between the public, private and voluntary sectors to improve delivery.
The LGC Awards is the premier event of the local government calendar. It exists to identify, showcase and celebrate the best examples of innovation and quality delivered by councils on a daily basis. Judging will take place this spring and the results will be announced at an awards ceremony in London on Wednesday 12 June 2024.
