A number of allotments in Walsall have seen improvements thanks to the Towns Fund.

Walsall Council has secured funding through the Government’s Town Deal and has put some of the funding to use to improve allotments for local people.

“ It’s great to see improvements being made to our allotments. Having access to green spaces is key for wellbeing and our allotments are a lifeline for many local people that may not have access to a garden of their own. Making them accessible and comfortable for people to use will make a huge difference “

Councillor Gary Flint, Portfolio Holder for Health and Wellbeing
Walsall Council

“ It’s great that the Towns Fund has given us the opportunity to listen to the needs of communities and put some funding behind projects that matter to local people. These small improvements will make a big difference “

Councillor Adrian Andrew, Associate Leader
Walsall Council

Improvements include resurfacing driveways and paths to make accessing the allotments easier and safer, and the installation of accessible toilet facilities.

Grenfell Road Allotments has a new accessible toilet which was installed at the end of 2024. The toilet block provides enough space for people using the facilities on-site to change if needed thanks to the extra space and is fully accessible.

A member of the allotment committee said “We are so pleased with our new accessible toilets recently installed on Grenfell allotments. It now means we can welcome all groups onto our site, who will be able to use our facilities and have somewhere to change if needed. The new facility has exceeded my expectations.”
