Have your say on your local streets

A new project is seeking the views of Walsall residents to help improve their local streets.

Town Centre to Arboretum Community Street Audit Map

The project has been funded by Transport for West Midlands (part of West Midlands Combined Authority) and will see Walsall Council working in partnership with walking charity Living Streets to gather the views of Walsall residents.

Living Streets is carrying out Community Street Audits, which see residents walk around their local area and identify barriers that stop them from walking or wheeling such as a need for better footways or more lighting or better crossings. The charity has also set up online surveys for people to have their say.

The three routes currently being assessed are Walsall town centre to Mill Lane Local Nature Reserve; Walsall town centre to the Arboretum and Bloxwich Road/High Street from Leamore Lane up to Bloxwich Hospital.

Following the audits, Living Streets will provide recommendations on potential improvements that could make it easier for people to walk more of their local journeys.

“ Walking our short journeys to the shops, parks, work or school is an easy way to stay healthy but we know there are many things that can put people off doing this.

It’s great to be working in Walsall to help identify what could be done to make streets better, so that more people can choose to walk or wheel their everyday journeys and enjoy the many benefits this brings. “

Anna Griffiths, Technical Coordinator, Living Streets
