Get tested and know your sexual health on STIQ Day
Published on
Walsall residents are encouraged to look after their sexual health by getting tested for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) with STIQ Day taking place on 14 January.
STIQ Day, observed annually every January, aims to raise awareness about the importance of regular sexual health testing and to reduce the stigma associated with STI testing.
STIQ Day takes place two weeks into the new year, a time when common STIs, such as Chlamydia, become detectable after the festive season. Some STIs can go unnoticed without any symptoms. If the festive season included unprotected sex, residents should consider getting tested as soon as possible.
The best way to prevent sexually transmitted infections is by using a condom. They are non-hormonal and provide triple protection against sexually transmitted infections, including HIV and unplanned pregnancy.
Getting tested is free, simple and confidential. Walsall residents can get a free testing kit from Walsall Integrated Sexual Health (WiSH) or access confidential advice and support by calling 01922 270400.
“ Testing is the only way to confirm and stop the spread of STIs. Even if you feel healthy and have no symptoms you might still be carrying an infection.
Routine testing helps control your health and early detection reduces the risk of long-term damage. Testing is quick, simple and free of charge. It should be as routine as dental or eye checks.
Make the most of this year’s STIQ Day, starting the year as you mean to carry on, by prioritising your health, getting tested and wearing a condom to protect you from STIs and unplanned pregnancy. “
