Fryers Road HWRC to remain open as new Middlemore Lane facility opens

Published on

Walsall Council has confirmed updated arrangements for Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs) across the borough.

Fryers Road HWRC

Fryers Road HWRC in Bloxwich will remain open to residents while plans for its redevelopment are finalised. Keeping Fryers Road open during this period will minimise the distance residents in the west of the borough need to travel and ensures continued access to waste and recycling services.

Arrangements for service provision when Fryers Road does close for redevelopment will be considered as part of future decision-making, with further details to be shared at a later date.

Merchants Way Household Waste Recycling Centre, located around half a mile from the new Middlemore Lane site, will close from Sunday 1 February, 5pm.

“ Keeping Fryers Road open while redevelopment plans are finalised is the right thing to do for our residents. It ensures people, particularly those living in the west of the borough, continue to have access to waste and recycling facilities while we deliver a major step forward with the new Middlemore Lane site.

“This approach balances investment in modern, state-of-the-art facilities with fairness and practicality for residents. It allows us to maintain good access to services while taking the time to get the redevelopment of Fryers Road right. “

Councillor Suky Samra, Portfolio Holder for Street Scene

These arrangements sit alongside the opening of Walsall’s new £32 million state-of-the-art Household Waste Recycling Centre at Middlemore Lane, Aldridge, which will open to residents on Monday 2 February 2026.

The Middlemore Lane site will serve the borough for years to come, providing residents with easy-to-use facilities to recycle a wider range of materials. The site will be open seven days a week, with proof of residence required.

Opening times:

  • Monday: 9am to 5pm
  • Tuesday: 8am to 4pm
  • Wednesday: 9am to 5pm
  • Thursday: 10am to 6pm
  • Friday: 9am to 5pm
  • Saturday: 9am to 5pm
  • Sunday: 9am to 5pm

A dedicated reuse shop will also operate on site, giving new life to items that might otherwise be thrown away. Items will be repaired and upcycled in an on-site workshop before being sold at low cost to residents. For the first two weeks from 2 February, the reuse shop will open between 10am and 2pm on Monday, Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, before aligning with the HWRC opening hours.
