On Monday 20 June 2022, Walsall Council raised the Armed Forces Flag in advance of Armed Forces Day, which takes place on Saturday 25 June 2022.

A special flag-raising ceremony took place from 10.15am outside the Council House. The Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Rose Martin led the short service to recognise and celebrate the contribution of all those who serve or have served in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces. The Armed Forces flag was raised by was Aimee Cowley, Lance Corporal, Walsall Detachment, Staffordshire & West Midlands  A Company Army Cadet Force.

Also in attendance was Deputy Lieutenant David Frost CBE DL and his cadet Cameron Bates.

The ceremony, organised by Walsall Council, included a military fanfare performed by Lesley Jenkins from West Midlands Police Band, followed by the raising of the flag and a minute’s silence. A number of veterans were also in attendance, and were invited in to the Mayor’s parlour for refreshments as a gesture of thanks for their service.

“ I’m looking forward to marking Armed Forces Day and meeting a number of veterans. It’s important to show our continued support and gratitude for those men and women who serve, or have served, in the armed forces. This event is a way to show our respect for those who fight for our country and will be a truly moving ceremony, which I am honoured to be hosting. “
