Event on preventing drug-related deaths to build a safer Walsall
Published on
A half-day event focusing on preventing drug-related deaths will take place on Tuesday 16 September from 9am to 1pm at Manor Farm Community Association.

Drug-related deaths in England are at their highest level since records began and changes to illegal drug markets are increasing the risks of overdose. More than 500 people in the West Midlands died from drug use in 2023, an increase of 28% on the previous year. The region has seen one of the biggest increases in drug-related deaths in the country.
In response to the growing situation, Walsall Council’s Public Health team, in partnership with The Beacon - Change Grow Live, is organising this half-day event aimed at tackling the issue head on. It will bring together local statutory, voluntary and community organisations to explore practical ways to save lives and prepare for the potential arrival of highly potent drugs in the area.
The event will highlight local risks and emerging substances of concern, present evidence-based approaches to reducing drug-related deaths, showcase current harm reduction initiatives and updates to Walsall’s drug treatment services and offer live demonstrations of naloxone, a life-saving medication that reverses opioid overdoses.
“ This event is a crucial opportunity for our community to come together, share knowledge and take action to prevent drug-related deaths in Walsall. We invite you to attend and share your ideas on how you or your organisation can play your part to make a difference and ultimately, save lives. “
