Donate a gift to Walsall care leavers this Christmas

Published on

The generosity of Walsall is being called upon this festive season, as the council launches a gift donation drive for the borough’s care leavers.

Gift under Christmas tree
The council currently supports 355 young people aged 17-25 who are leaving or have left the care of the local authority.

The drive has been launched to ensure all care leavers receive at least one gift to open this Christmas.

The council’s Transition and Leaving Care (TLC) team have suggested perfumes, toiletry sets, clothing and games as example gifts.

Many care leavers do not have the same family network of support that others have, which means Christmas can be a challenging and lonely time.

The donation drive is open until Friday 13 December 2024 and the donation point is at the TLC Hub, Brineton Street, Walsall, WS2 9EP.

“ Christmas is a magical time of the year, but there’s no denying that care leavers can struggle during the festive period.

Everybody deserves a Christmas gift, and although times are hard for us all, the Christmas spirit is all about being kind, generous, and thinking of others, so we’d really appreciate any gifts that can be donated.

Thank you to anyone who donates to this great cause “

Councillor Stacie Elson, Portfolio Holder for Children's Services
Walsall Council

During the festive period, the council’s TLC team will be hosting a Christmas meal for care leavers to enjoy and open gifts together. The team currently supports 355 young people aged 17-25 who are leaving or have left the care of the local authority.
