Walsall residents are invited to come together at The New Art Gallery in Walsall on Saturday 22 October, 11am – 3pm to celebrate Diwali 2022, the Festival of Lights.

Diwali symbolises a spiritual triumph of good over evil and light over darkness. It is one of the major festivals celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, Jains and some Buddhists.

“ Diwali is one of our most popular annual celebrations at the art gallery and this year is set to be really exciting.

We will be hosting some fantastic workshops for people to get involved with, including Bollywood dancing and mandala window decoration making. It’s a brilliant opportunity to learn more about the celebration and explore different cultures through the arts. “

Stephen Snoddy
Director of The New Art Gallery

Those attending the event will have the opportunity to contribute to a giant mandala inspired by artist Cornelia Parker’s ‘Fleeting Monument’, create colourful handing mandala window decorations with artist Nilupa Yasmin, enjoy performances and workshops by Bollywood Dreams Dance Company, get a mehndi hand design and sample scrummy samosas from Hargun’s Sweet Centre.

The event is free to attend and open to everyone.
