Disused park buildings in Bloxwich to be transformed for use by local leisure businesses
Published on
Improvements planned for King George V Playing Field will include two of the park’s heritage buildings being brought back into use.
£4.5million has been secured by Walsall Council to make improvements to a number of Bloxwich parks under the Green Bloxwich scheme.
One of the areas that will benefit from major improvements is King George V Playing Field, with two of the park’s heritage buildings to be brought back into use.
Plans for The Lodge and Pavilion are under development and Walsall Council is asking leisure businesses and charitable organisations interested in taking on the leases to come forward to help shape the designs.
“ The improvements to King George V Playing Field will increase usability for all age groups, making it a destination of choice for Walsall North. The old buildings are in prime locations within the popular park and provide a fantastic opportunity for leisure businesses interested in taking on the leases.
We know from extensive consultation that local people are very interested in the developments and the park is very well used. This is a really exciting opportunity for interested parties, who will be able to help us shape the designs throughout the construction process.
“
“ King George V playing fields is a fantastic location with lots of potential. It extends to some 16.39 Hectares and already has facilities including sports pitches, a children’s play area and splash pad. It has a high attendance rate which we expect to significantly increase through the proposed improvements. It’s a great opportunity for leisure businesses and I’m excited to see it all come together. “
The Lodge could provide accommodation for a small enterprise once fully refurbished and extended, while The Pavilion has a strong synergy with existing sports and park uses. Indicative plans have been prepared which show an improved and enhanced building providing new and essential facilities to support this including a café, team rooms, kitchen, bar, function room, showers and changing rooms.
