Discover your family roots through Walsall Archives this Local History Month

Walsall Archives is offering free 30-minute sessions for residents to delve into their past during Local and Community History Month this May.

Starting Thursday 1 May 2025, these taster sessions are designed to help residents discover their local roots and family history.
“ Local History Month provides a wonderful chance for us to connect with our heritage and understand the stories that have shaped our communities.
I warmly invite everyone to take advantage of this opportunity from Walsall’s rich archives and explore the possibility of uncovering their own family history through these free taster sessions. It’s also a chance to look bring back memories of significant events that took place in the past. “
May also marks the 80th anniversary of VE Day and the Lichfield Street Hub Library and Walsall Archives will host a Spitfire craft and history session for children aged 7-12 on Wednesday 28 May at 10.30 am, A £2 deposit is required to hold the space, but this will be returned on the day.
Event details:
- Throughout May, VE Day 80th Anniversary exhibition – ‘Remembering Walsall during the Second World War’ as well as topical quizzes (for children and adults) and activities in the library.
- Free Ancestry Taster Sessions: Starting Thursday 1 May (30-minute sessions, booking essential).
- Spitfire Craft and History Activity: Wednesday, May 28th, 10:30 am at Lichfield Street Hub Walsall WS11TR (for children aged 7-12, A £2 deposit is required to hold the space, but this will be returned on the day.).
