National Book Lovers Day is dedicated to those who relish the reading, collecting, and cherishing of books.

“ I would encourage everyone to explore what our local libraries have to offer. It’s free to join any of our libraries, and you may just find your next treasured read.

“We’ve got some fantastic e-resources too including our BorrowBox app, which provides access to more than 8,000 bestselling eAudiobooks and eBooks on the go, completely for free.

“Reading provides entertainment, enhances your knowledge and expands your vocabulary. There are also lots of health benefits too and it can reduce stress, help you relax, and improve your concentration too. All good reasons to enjoy a good book every day of the year not just on National Book Lovers Day. “

Looking for some books to add to your summer reading list?

All of Walsall Council’s seven libraries are currently taking part in the annual Summer Reading Challenge, which runs until Saturday 7 September 2024. This provides the perfect opportunity to get children reading to improve their confidence over the summer months. The theme for this year’s challenge is Marvellous Makers, developed in partnership with leading arts charity Create. It’s all about creativity with something for everyone, from dance to drawing, and junk modelling to music.

Walsall Library members can also listen to the latest audiobooks on the go, read the day’s newspaper without needing to go to their front door, explore their family history and much more. Joining is simple and free, just fill in an application online or visit your local library.
