Creating Woodland for Wildlife: Tree Planting Day at Reedswood Park, Cavendish Road
Published on
Walsall Council is inviting members of the public, volunteers, and tree wardens to join in a community planting event at Reedswood Park on Cavendish Road on Tuesday 6 February from 9.30am - 1pm.
The goal of the event is to create a broadleaf native woodland that will have numerous benefits for the local community and wildlife. By planting an additional 850 trees and 250 shrubs, it is estimated that over 1.5 acres of woodland will be established. These efforts will contribute to carbon sequestration, provide habitat for local wildlife, and offer recreational opportunities for nearby residents.
“ We are thrilled to be organising this tree planting day at Reedswood Park on Cavendish Road and we encourage residents to come along and lend a hand. The creation of this woodland will not only enhance the area's biodiversity and ecological resilience but will also offer a peaceful retreat for residents to enjoy nature.
We’d like to thank the Woodland Trust's MOREWoods Scheme and the West Midlands Combined Authority funding, both of whom have helped in making this tree planting initiative possible. We look forward to collaborating with these organisations further in the future, building on the existing field margins of shrubs and trees and expanding the woodland ecosystem. “
Volunteers are advised to come prepared with their own gloves, spades, thermos, and wear strong sturdy footwear and weather-appropriate clothing. The event promises to be a rewarding opportunity to make a positive impact on the local environment and contribute to the greening of Walsall.
For more information and to register your interest, residents can contact Rewilding Officer, Emma Buck via email at emma.buck@walsall.gov.uk.
Please note: anyone under the age of 16 wishing to come along and help will need to be accompanied by an adult.
