Walsall Council is encouraging residents and local businesses to take part in a new survey launched last week by the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC).

Local people and businesses are being invited to share their views on how make non-surgical cosmetic procedures such as Botox, laser hair removal, and dermal fillers, safer for customers after thousands complained of botched procedures.

The new licensing scheme will have a significant impact on individuals offering aesthetic treatments and on those seeking such procedures. The government's amendment to the Health and Care Act 2022 empowers the Secretary of State for Health and Social Care to introduce new a licensing scheme in England, specifically for non-surgical cosmetic procedures.

Under the proposed new scheme, practitioners will need to be licensed to perform specific procedures, and the premises from which they operate will also need to be licensed.

The DHSC is particularly interested in hearing from members of the public who have personal experience with non-surgical cosmetic procedures, as well as individuals working in or representing the cosmetic and beauty industry.

“ It is crucial for anyone who has experience or knowledge of non-surgical cosmetic procedures to take part in this survey. Community input in this consultation will assist in the development of a licensing scheme that applies to both local and national practitioners, as well as cosmetic businesses. We want to ensure that individuals who choose these treatments can have confidence in their safety and quality. “

Councillor Gary Flint
Portfolio Holder for Wellbeing, Leisure and Public Spaces at Walsall Council

The survey closes at 11:59pm on Saturday 28 October 2023, and the public’s feedback will play an integral role in shaping the future of non-surgical cosmetic procedures in England.
