The council’s children’s services celebrated the success of children in care at an awards event on Friday 30 August.
Hosted at Walsall’s Town Hall, the afternoon was split into two halves: the first half an ‘Excellent Tea Party’ for primary school aged children, and the second part ‘Excellent Awards’ for secondary and post-16 young people.
Around 100 people attended the event, and children in care were joined by their carers, social workers, independent reviewing officer’s, staff from the Virtual School and others who wanted to share the joyous occasion.
The award categories were designed to recognise achievements of young people, highlighting their dedication, perseverance, and positive contributions they make to their communities.
Award categories included: academic achievement, personal development, resilience, and community involvement.
Mayor of Walsall, Councillor Anthony Harris presented awards to the proud recipients.
Councillor Stacie Elson, Portfolio Holder for Children’s Services at Walsall Council, attended the event and said, “What an inspiring afternoon we had at the Town Hall.
“The room was full of pride, and rightly so, because these children and young are simply amazing, and deserve nothing more to be seen, heard, and celebrated.
“There was a real sense of community in the room, and great to see young people celebrate their peers, amongst family and friends.
“Well done to all those involved in setting up such a great event, and once again a big well done to those award winners, you inspire us all and should be very proud of yourselves.”
