Community volunteering and Easter activities deliver environmental and social impact across Walsall

A series of community-focused initiatives delivered through Walsall Council’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme has brought together local businesses, volunteers and families to support green spaces and community wellbeing across the borough.

More than 150 children took part in Easter Egg Trail events held in parks across Walsall during the school holidays. Organised as part of the CSR programme, the trails encouraged families to explore local parks and take part in outdoor activities.

The events were supported by donations from local business A.F. Blakemore & Son Ltd, helping to provide Easter eggs and treats for children taking part.

Meanwhile, coppicing volunteer days across February and March saw 26 volunteers from local businesses and council teams working alongside each other to support traditional woodland management. The sessions provided hands-on experience in coppicing, a long-established technique that promotes biodiversity, strengthens habitats and supports the long-term health of woodlands.

The activity also delivered wider benefits, offering opportunities for physical activity, time outdoors and collaboration between organisations. Harvested wood from the sessions was donated to allotment sites, schools, community groups and Walsall College, extending the impact of the initiative. These sessions were attending by volunteers from Wates, Barhale and SUEZ.

Both initiatives highlight the growing involvement of businesses, volunteers and community groups in supporting local priorities and enhancing public spaces across the borough.

A spokesperson for Walsall Council said, “These initiatives show how partnership working can deliver real benefits for our environment and communities, while also creating meaningful opportunities for people to get involved and make a difference.”
