Celebrating Carers Week 2023

Published on

This week, Walsall Council is celebrating Carers Week (5-11 June 2023) and recognising the invaluable work done by thousands of unpaid carers across the borough every day of the year.

Carers Week is an annual awareness campaign to celebrate and recognise the vital contribution made by the UK’s 5.7 million carers and this year’s theme is “recognising and supporting carers in the community”.

To celebrate, Walsall Carers Hub is hosting a mini Carers Festival at Walsall Arboretum Visitors Centre on Tuesday 6 June 2023 from 10.30am to 2.30pm. This free event will recognise, support and celebrate the unpaid carers in the Walsall community who support family members and friends needing a little extra help as they grow older, or with a disability, mental or physical illness.

Local carers are invited to come along and find out more about the year-round help and support that’s on offer to unpaid carers in the borough. At the event, they can take part in a series of wellbeing activities including yoga, Tai Chi, meditation and hand, head and shoulder massages and a wellbeing walk. Everyone is encouraged to bring a picnic too and enjoy a lively community gathering with live acoustic music from 1pm to 2pm.
