Clinics will be taking place across the borough between now and July for school aged children (Reception to Year 11) in Walsall to catch up on vaccines they have missed at school.

The clinics will be delivered by Vaccination UK, offering the DTP and MenACWY vaccines for children currently in year 9 or above and the HPV vaccine for children in year 8 or above.

MMR vaccinations are also being offered to school-aged children who have missed one or both doses.

The clinics will take place from this month in locations across the borough.

“ I strongly encourage your child is up to date with their vaccinations. These clinics provide a convenient and important opportunity to ensure your child is fully protected against a range of diseases. Not only it will protect them, but also their loved ones. It is never too late to catch up so don’t delay in getting your child vaccinated. “

Notes to editor:

Consent forms can be completed prior to the clinic:

The DTP vaccine (also known as Td/IPV vaccine) is a combined 3 in 1 vaccine that protects against diphtheria, tetanus and polio. It is recommended for children in school year 9 and people at higher risk of these illnesses.

The MenACWY vaccine helps protect against life-threatening illnesses like meningitis and sepsis. It's offered to teenagers in school but can be given up to the age of 25 if it's been missed.

The HPV vaccine helps protect against human papillomavirus (HPV). It's recommended for children aged 12 to 13 years old and people at higher risk from HPV.

The MMR vaccine gives long-term protection against measles, mumps and rubella. It is recommended for all children. The vaccine is given in two doses, which provides long-term protection.

Details of catch-up clinics taking place across the Black Country can be found on the Vaccination UK website.

Parents and carers can also check their child’s Red Book or contact their GP if they are unsure if their child has missed any vaccines.
